DEGIN - Extraordinary Prize for Best Doctoral Theses
Dr.-Ing. Javier Villalba-Diez, DEGIN Alumni from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), has been awarded the Extraordinary Prize for Best Doctoral Theses by UPM. This is thanks to his doctoral thesis “The Hoshin Kanri Forest.Lean Strategic Organizational Design” which best advances knowledge in the field of Strategic Organizational Design by providing a useful contribution to this field of knowledge.
The Thesis, guided by Prof. Dr. Joaquín Ordieres-Meré of Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenierios Industriales (UPM), proposes a novel way to design organizations as complex networked value stream oriented systems that, following the Hoshin Kanri Forest technology are able to deploy strategic organizational goals throughout the entire organization in a comprehensive manner that enables organizational leaders to empower team members, hence achieving organizational goals while increasing trust.
By (re-) designing the organizational strategic design, Villalba-Diez has implemented the Hoshin Kanri Forest technology in Germany, Japan and USA in health-care industry, military, automobile, metallurgy, machine construction, higher education institutions, among others, achieving longitudinal remarkable successful impact on financial strategic goals of the subject organizations.
Thanks to the high standards given by DEGIN, the doctoral thesis was backed up by several JCR paper publications and the knowledge was disseminated through numerous international conferences, keynotes, and a series of LEANMANGA comics that explain several concepts with Japanese art-like stories. This research has been continued by Villalba-Diez with the publication of two books with renowned Lean Management oriented publisher such as the New York based CRC Productivity Press. Specifically, the first one, with the same title, is a light version of the doctoral thesis with specific methodologies that aim implementation. The second one, The Lean Brain Theory. Complex Networked Lean Strategic Organizational Design aims to aim to entangle the usage of Artificial Intelligence and such Strategic Organizational Design technology.
